Preserving date and time stamp on all files copied?

Hello,

I have a new computer with Windows 7 on it - and I want to copy the files from my old computer to my new one. I'm looking at copying about 300 GB worth of data.

When I copy all files and insert them onto my new desktop, I notice that all of the date/time stamps are changed to today's date.

Is there a way to preserve the date/time stamp for each file, so that it keeps the original one?

If you right click the folder, then select properties It should show:

Created: (This will be the date you copied it over)

Modified ( aslong as it hasn't been modified on the new machine, IT should read the date it WAS last modified?

Accessed: It should show when the folder was last accessed (opened)

In regards to "perserving the date/Time Stamp. I'm not sure this is possible.
You can always try checking the Modified Time/date ( mentioned above ) then add the date to the file/folder name. SO you always have a refferance.

Hello Datetimestamp, welcome to the Seven Forums.

You could do this for instance with command prompt, using command ROBOCOPY. Following command for instance creates an identical (mirror) folder structure of SOURCE to TARGET, copying everything including time stamp:

robocopy SOURCE TARGET /mir /copyall

Type robocopy /? on command prompt to see all options and help. The /copyall switch can only be used on elevated command prompt ("Run as administrator").

I believe SyncToy from MS does what you are requesting;

Download SyncToy 2.1 from Official Microsoft Download Center

I don't use it, so I can't be sure about the results.
