Prevent shutdown when not initiated by user

How do I do to prevent a shutdown from being initiated by means that was not my own action?

I have already had multiple issues with programs that work with DB's on my computer (including my own) that become partly corrupted from being given the order to shutdown and then the process is killed (those 2, just being killed is no issue as they are ready to recover).

Some programs seem to have made thinking they are in a sandbox of some sort where they initiate the shutdown sequence without me confirming it. It annoys me.

How do I do so that I can give the order to windows to consider all shutdown orders as unauthorized or not allowed unless they come from me, by my own actions?
I have already tried what appears in the first 3 pages of results of this search:
http://www.sevenforums.com/gtsearch...82497cd886335626aebd4c6b0f&&ss=2383j544421j16
Nothing helps. The closest one is shutdownguard... but it only prevents itself from closing, not the computer, not to mention it doesn't prevent a forced shutdown sequence which seem to be the norm for these programs.

Yes.
All else cannot initiate a shutdown sequence.
I accept solutions that include Batch or .net scripts (possibly also require administration permissions) to get that result.

(Extra info)
If no other can initiate a system shutdown sequence, the programs are prepared for the other ways the system can get an unexpected shutdown.

So you want the machine on 24/7 and no way for it to shut down, but only by you ?
Yes.
Where is this pc kept ?
With me. All the time.
Who owns it ?
Me.
And who would possibly would shut it down ?
More of a "what" than a "who".
The "what" is programs that "believe" they require an immediate shutdown of my system after updating (either automatically or manually).
I already solved the one with windows update.

Can all of the programs that do a shutdown be configured to not do a shutdown ?
If you can't prevent the programs from doing a shutdown,
After looking through Brink's tutorial I THINK YOU MIGHT be able to do what you want using Local Security Policy.

  • Create a PW protected administrator account that you will use as the ONLY account that can do a shutdown.
  • Remove all other users and groups from the ability to do a shutdown.
  • If your programs run using your userid, you would log into Windows with your current userid that will no longer have permission to do a shutdown.
  • You might need to setup a "shortcut/bat file" to do a shutdown that prompts for your new account PW that can do a shutdown.
I'm guessing on all this, but this is what i would try if i wanted to do what you want.

Here is the tutorial by Brink:

You can post questions in the tutorial to get advice from Brink, and include a link to this thread.

Hum... That is not only the shutdown and restart, that's also for sleep and hibernate. Will my PC hibernate if it reaches a very low battery state that way?
