Primary monitor not connecting

Hi everyone

I had to disconnect my monitors, and a short while later re-connected them. When I turned my PC back on, at first Windows 7 had trouble even starting up, saying it had errors. I disconnected all my USB devices except keyboard and mouse and then Windows 7 started up OK.

I have my BenQ monitor connected with DVI and my LG with VGA. My graphics is onboard on the Asus. When I start up my PC now, the BIOS screens etc show up on both monitors, and the Windows logo shows up on both. But once I get to the login screen, the BenQ blacks out and only the LG is active.

I tried updating the Intel Graphics driver, that didn't help. All options under control panel show only one monitor, as does Device Manager.

This was working fine for a long time, now just by disconnecting and reconnecting the monitors, it's like Windows isn't aware of the DVI port.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Sounds very strange. Are you sure you made no changes at all to your system. It sounds like the graphics & VGA lead are working fine if you are still able to view an image/BIOS.

I take it the Benq is the primary monitor?

If the monitor is showing you a BIOS screen and the Windows fly-in logo, the monitor and the connection are working. The fault will be with Windows. Likely, Windows has forgotten how to handle your displays properly.

Are you able to log in? If you can, right click on the display, select Screen Resolution. Where you see "Multiple Displays", select "Extend these displays" and see what happens.

Also, check your BIOS and make sure that both display outputs are properly enabled. Make sure that the "iGPU Multi Monitor" setting is enabled.
