Printer connected to Router

Dear

I have a Laptop and a Desktop system.
I have installed windows 7 on both the systems.
I have a printer.
I use internet on both the systems via Wireless Router i.e. connected to a broadband internet service without any problems.
Currently I use printer separately connecting to either systems if I want to print any file.
So far no problems.

But now I have two options to connect a Printer as a network Printer:
1. Shared Printer
2. Connected Via Wireless Router

I have successfully shared the printer to a system and have used the printer from other. But there is a problem that I need to keep my System (Desktop) on all the time I want use the Printer.

So I need to know the Proper Settings to connect a Printer to a Wireless Router so that it can be accessed from both systems without keeping any of my systems on all the time.
To do that I need to know step by step settings because I have tried a lot but nothing happened.

Any Printer IP? If yes then how to apply IP to a Printer.
Should I connect and install drivers of the Printer first on the system and then connect to wireless Router?
Everything in simplified way please....

If your printer is network capable then it should have come with a installation CD that will walk you through setting it up. I just did this recently with my Brother HL-2270DW laser. Works great.

Well I have tried a lot but I am unable to connect. My printer is HP Laserjet L2100 PCL 6. I didn't get any installation CD with it. But It is Network Capable Printer.!!! Can you please tell me how to connect it. Installing it on Desktop or Laptop isn't a problem. I use it on both systems. But I want to connect printer to Router so that I can use it without sharing from both systems anytime and not keeping any system on all the time where it is shared....

do you get my point?

Is your printer this model:
HP LaserJet 2100tn Printer A 10 ppm laser printer that comes standard with a 100-sheet multi-purpose Tray 1, a 250-sheet Tray 2, a 250-sheet Tray 3, 8 MB of memory, PS printing, and an HP Jetdirect 600 N print server card.

?
if so then I recommend connecting it directly to your router/switch.

If not, then it might help to further specify your printer model so that we can help
you get this working correctly.

it is HP LaserJet 2100tn Printer A 10 ppm laser printer!!!
I have connected it with Router but what settings are required to make it work... Because when i give the order it does not work... maybe some of the settings I am missing which are essential....

Hello mustafa,

To install the network printer you need to follow a few steps- first, do you have the driver for the printer? If not, go to HP's website and download the latest available, be careful about x86/x64, save it somewhere on the hard drive. If its zipped, extract it to a folder on the hard drive.

Now, you need to make sure the computers on the printer can actually see the printer. For this, first connect the printer via cat5 cable to the router (any LAN port) and print out the config page using the buttons on the front of the printer. If your router is assigning addresses dynamically, the printer would show up a dynamically assigned ip address. If you get nothing at this step, either make sure dhcp is enabled on the router or assign a private static ip to the printer. Let us know if you need to do this.

Now on any PC thats connected (wired/wirelessly) to the same router, go into "devices and printers" page and click "Add a printer" at the top. Let it detect the network printer, if it successfully detects it means the network config is correct. Follow the onscreen prompts and when it asks for the driver, point it to the folder where you extracted the driver. Another way of going about this is to install the driver right at the beginning, the printer installer will automatically find the installed driver.
