Hey there,

This isn't a Windows 7 question, But seeing as I'm not a member on any other forums, I'd really appreciate the help.

Basically, one of my printers in work is a Brother HL-4040CN laser printer.
The problem is that when I'm printing CAD drawings, or any document really, there are little black pixel like dots left on the page. These don't appear on any document and is just a fault of the printer.

Has anyone had this problem before or could anyone name the component of the printer that's causing the dots and any possible solution - even if it's just buying a new part!

Many thanks,
-emJay

Yeah. Like I said, this isn't directly related to Windows 7 - I know this because it's happening on an XP machine too. It's definitely a component that either needs cleaning or replacing, I just can't determine which one it is as I've no experience in printers.

Thanks.

Never used a Brothers printer but every other printer I have used has a maintenance section in there program. Suck as test printer, align head, clean head. Take a look see in your program.

Here is a direct link to an online manual for that printer

After clicking that link, Click "Troubleshooting" on the left, Scroll down and click "Improve Print Quality". It has a bunch of symptoms and possible solutions.

What I would suggest is taking the toner cartridge out and looking on the bottom side (the roller that touches the paper), and spinning it slowly around looking for something on it that could cause the black dots. If so, grab a paper towel and wipe it off gently.

I use those little alcohol swabs and clean all toner heads and inside of printer.
Do you have a maintenance tool for alignment and head cleaner?

Unfortunately there's no tool. I looked for imperfections but I think it was generally just wear due to age. I've replaced the toner and now have pages coming out cleanly, lol.

Many thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
