Ok so I have installed Win 7 a while ago and today needed to print to my upstairs printer. My printer is a HP Deskjest 340 and it is connected to an iMac. I have all comps networked together so when i click add a printer my HP shows up as connected to my mac, no problem there. When i select the printer it starts to install a driver for it but a message comes up that says "No driver found" it asks me if i want to search for a driver on my comp but i don't have one to begin with. So basically I'm stuck. i have been to HPs website about there drivers and such and they don't have any drivers for Vista, they say the comp will look and find one for you while it did properly.

You can try this workaround...

Unplug your printer from your iMac upstairs and connect it on W7. It should be detected as a local printer and the necessary drivers will be installed.

Then , disconnect it and put it back to you iMac upstairs.
Now try connecting to it again as a network printer. W7 should already have the drivers needed now.

Hi Guys

Does anyone know how I can get this printer to work in Windows 7?
Vista has the drivers already, and the Lexmark site does not list drivers for vista.
I have this printer connected to my network through a HP printer server, so basically the way I set it up on a system is by creating a standard tcp/ip port to the server.
Any ideas??
Does anyone know of a driver in Windows 7 that will work?
Thanks

Rickie

Same thing happened to me. I have 4 machines 3 towers and one laptop. My main is hard wired to the Fios router and has the Epson R1400 attached to it via USB. The other two towers have built it wireless. Of course so has the laptop. One of the towers "could not find drivers" either as in your example. I finally had to use my installation disk for the Epson on the computer that could not "find" drivers and re did the "connect to my Epson" operation, it pulled and installed the driver from the disk and all was fine afterwards. Very odd that the others were able to pull the driver from the main machine where the priter resides. At this point I just happy that all four machines are seeing and using the same printer though I can't figure out why it could not grab the drivers from the 1st like the others. The laptop is Windows 7 build 7000 ( no problem with that one ) the main and second towers are Vista Home Premium ( also no problem ) and the third is running 7 and that's the one that had your same probelm.

SO far I am loving Windows 7!!!!

Complicated but CAN be done

Here is one way to do it. Also it can be done without connecting printer through USB cable to Windows 7 machine.

1. Add Printer (click)
2. Choose local printer
3. Choose use existing port: print to file
4. If your printer is not listed, click windows update (requires internet).
5. Wait...
6. Check to see if printer is now listed.
7. Choose newly listed printer.
8. Printer will then install.

1. Right click printer icon. Left click printer properties.
2. Click port tab.
3. Add new port. Local port
4. Type in address of shared printer ie \\Name or ip address of computer with attached shared printer\Shared printer name
5. Click general tab. Print test page. Run upstairs to see if your test page printed.

This Only works if there is a driver for your Win 7 system. Printer manufacture's can be a little slow in that area.

In my case with my older Dell printer they never made a 64 bit driver for Vista or Win7 so I'am sol until I find a new printer. Setting up a network printer is so easy with Win7. I remember the Win95 days and it wasn't so easy back then.

I use the network sharing folder as a work around, just slide the file over to my XP machine and print from there.

Hi. I had installed the Win 7 ultimate 64 bits in my laptop. My printer is a HP business inkjet 1100 installed in a computer with Win XP in my home network. I am trying to add this printer using the network and the Win 7 cold not find the driver. The HP website explain to use HP business inkjet 1000 like an alternative drive when the printer is installed in the computer with Win 7 but they don't explain how to add this printer using the network. When I add the printer locally, I can choose the model inkjet 1000 in a list of HP printers, but when I try to add the printer using the network this list don't appear. The win 7 just open a dialog box where I should select the place where the drive must be and I could not find where the HP business inkjet 1000 driver is inside Windows 7 folders. Help me.

After "More:"

It is very important to read my instructions after More. Go through those steps and it will work. If you can't remember your network path, go to XP machine and look at what name is used to share your HP printer. Use that exact name. Your path should look like this: \\ip address of xp machine\share name of printer. Or for example: \\192.168.1.127\HP1100 .

Also you don't seem to have read my entire post closely. Please do so. But if after reading a few times with little or no understanding, please write back. I will try to do better. :D

@scn You really should have started your own thread on this. So in the future please do.What driver did you try to install? Did you read the information on your printer from here? The reason I ask is it is basically saying that they don't have a win 7 driver available and that the driver 7 provides should do basic printing and the card reader should work following their tutorial. @speed1 Please next time start your own thread as it gets confusing with all the different printers and you'll get quicker responses. Thanks. That being said, we need to know what model printer your referring to. Then we can try and find the driver and assist you further. Fabe

in feature 6 it mention that the windows7 can't work with XP programs (it can't Run many Windows XP productivity programs in Windows XP Mode. )

I dont know maybe this is the poit why windows7 can't run a shared printer connected to XP machine

If you have the installation disc that came with the printer, definitely put it in your computer and install. I was having the same problem as you. I even plugged my printer into my laptop and it wouldn't add the driver for some odd reason. I installed the disc on my laptop and now it works perfectly. I think this may be the only way to install the driver on to Windows 7 Computers, at least for this model of printer.

Epson CX5400 Driver?

You can try this workaround...

Unplug your printer from your iMac upstairs and connect it on W7. It should be detected as a local printer and the necessary drivers will be installed.

Then , disconnect it and put it back to you iMac upstairs.
Now try connecting to it again as a network printer. W7 should already have the drivers needed now.

I'm having the same problem the OP had. When I try to add my network printer (Epson CX5400 connected to a Windows XP desktop) to my Windows 7 laptop, it tells me it can't find a driver for that printer on the network. I tried the above-quoted advice, and the printer installed without difficulty when directly connected to my laptop, but it still says it can't find a driver when I try to add it as a network computer after I connect it back to the desktop.

It says it's looking for an .inf file. If I knew where on the harddrive this file would be located, I think I could complete installation, but I have no idea where to look. I've tried looking for a download from Epson's website, but it says the driver is an "inbox driver" on Windows 7, so it's not available for download.

Anyone know a fix for this problem?

This worked for me!

Thanks 'gadgtman'!! This worked for me after spending endless hours searching online and not getting now where. Thank goodness I searched older threads! But you need to mention that it is the "printer properties" that you need to click and not just "properties" at the bottom. I got lost there but overcame by persistence.
I had posted a new thread for my problem but am glad I kept looking.:D

@Okiecub, please try gadgtman's instructions because your problem sounds just like mine. Go back to his 6-18-2009 post on this thread. GOOD LUCK!!
