[I'm a virtualization n00b trying to help my parents out. Bear with me.] Installed a new Canon laser printer on my parent's office computer with a USB connection - Win 7, 64. Worked fine. Then installed into their virtual machine environment for XP mode which they use to run a DOS PROGRAM (no joke) for their business. Now the printer works fine in virtual machine but appears "offline" in Win7 proper. There must be sharing setting or a port thing I just don't know about. Appreciate any suggestions. Out of my league here. Thank you!

Well connecting it to the virtual machine like that disconnects it from the host. What you need to do is setup printer sharing though the network.
