Hello,

Please bear with me, as I'm a true novice with networking.
For the first time ever, I've put in a Router, and, amazingly, it sems to work.

Have 2 PC's in the same room.
Both are ethernet hard wired to router, as they are all pretty close together.

Old PC runs XP, and has my Printer connected to it via a USB cable.

New PC runs W7

Question. Assuming both PC's are turned On, would love to be able to print from my new W7 PC to the printer (connected to the XP machine)

Now that there is a router, am assuming that this is possible.

Could someone please tell me how to configure the XP nachine settings to enable this ?

Same question as to how to configure the new W7 PC to do this ?

Detail would be appreciated, as I'm really not too sharp with this stuff.

Much thanks, appreciate it.
B.

Install the Windows 7 driver to the XP machine for the printer. It's not the same as normal process.

You have to go into the Contol Panel and then into the properties of the printer. There's a tab for this.

Then, make sure you have file and print sharing enabled in Network and Sharing center.

Hi,

It works !

Thanks so much.

Only wish the other PC doesn't have to also be on to print.

But, sure is nice being able to print from either.

Thanks again,
Bob

Very welcome. Many printers nowadays can be self-sufficient and connect to a wireless router all by themselves.

Look into it to see if your model is one of them, if you'd like. Very possible.
