Private torrent

I did this years ago when on XP, but at the moment I'm stuffed. Think I'll put it down to Sunday lunch beverages.
Anyway, my daughter has in excess of 70mb of pics she wants to share with me and my bro, 400 miles away. In the past I found the best way of sharing large files was through setting up a private torrent. Does anyone know of a good tut that I can tell her to look at to maybe help her set it up. This is a private torrent BTW, nowt iffy going on!!

N.B. I got XP and 7, bro on 7, daughter on Vista if that makes any difference.

only 'trouble' with skydrive is 50mb file limit, and you need a live account, both easily sorted.

if you bunch your pictures into two separate zips, it'll be ok.

skydrive is lots simpler than torrents.

Why no use the free webspace that I bet you have with your ISP? That's yours, has no adverts and is accesible very easily through your browser. You can upload just by drag and drop. If you need help with it just PM me with your ISP and what package you have and I will happily assist.

Yea I've got sky drive, trouble is as mickey has pointed out its limited to 50mb. one of the pics she wants to share is 54mb and it really needs to travel in one piece. The less damage caused to it by splitting the better, I have received it via email in six or seven bits. Looks crap!!! Its an old family photo, OK a BIG old family photo, we want the best we can get, We have 8 days and counting to get this sorted and printed.

Thanks for the offer mitchell65, but off to Germany in a couple of days. ISP never sticks. Comes with the job I suppose.

Can't you use Megaupload or Rapidshare for your images? You can just zip the pictures into one file and upload it (Megaupload has a 1GB file size limit for free and Rapidshare is 200MB)

Dropbox free version offers 2GB online storage and is very easy to use for transferring files. A few months ago the file size limit was 300MB but it may be unlimited now.

I use Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire . As free, speedier than rapidshare .

I use free Team Viewer remote desktop to transfer files of any size between computers.

Install TV with all defaults in 30 seconds on both computers, have remote user email/IM you their ID and password, Create Session selecting File Transfer, browse to file on your computer and target folder on remote computer, press Send.

You could also go the FTP route and have her setup an FTP Server then both of you could connect via FTP to download whatever she makes available. See here: FileZilla - The free FTP solution

Yep, TeamViewer would transfer 70mb of pics rather quickly.

While that was happening... Yea things have moved on. A (short) few years back the only half decent method of shifting large files (FREE!!) was through a torrent. I need to get out more often!!
