Hello,

I just got this Windows 7 Enterprise edition from my brother who studies at an university. The problem is it only lasts for 30 days and if i try to activate it online it gives this error:

8x8007232B

Description:

DNS name does not exist.

I'm using an wireless card called Canyon CN-WF511 802.11g Turbo Wireless PCI Card. The problem could be that it hasn't got the right drivers for windows 7 yet, cause i was only able to download and install the drivers from the official site for Windows Vista..

I also tried the calling activation procedure but the automatic phone said that they couldn't verify the code i gave up, but i don't want to contact with the support cause i dont have a good reason to let them activate it..

So im not sure if it does work, but at least i want to give it a try to activate if via internet.

Cya

When you attempt to activate an enterprise version of Windows Vista or Windows 7...it does a DNS search trying to find the network's KMS (key management server) to activate against. In your case, you likely aren't on a local network with a KMS server so that activation mechanism is not an option.

Therefore, you need to get a MAK key (multiple activation key). Then, when you go to activate Windows 7..you click on change product key and input the MAK key. It will then validate the key and immediately attempt to activate it on the Internet.

I ran into the same issue on two computers, my work office and my home office. Both have Windows 7 Enterprise x86 installed. I fixed this by clicking 'change product key' in Control Panel> System and re-entering my volume license key. It was then able to activate normally. I thought it strange since I isntalled with the same key, but as long as it works....

Again, Windows 7 enterprise edition (and vista enterprise), expects to find a KMS (key management server) in your environment to activate against. If you do not have this, you have to instead enter a MAK key (multiple activation key). When you click on change product key, it recognizes that you aren't trying to use KMS and instead need to activate via the web).

New in this forum so please be patient with me

I just got my Windows 7 Enterprise from my friend in South Africa and tried to activate it. I followed the following steps....but it wasnt happening

1) I clicked on the "Change Product Key"

2) Fed the genuine key that was provided

3) It said there was some issues and provided options to activate differently including by phone.

4) I select phone activation and got the Installation ID which I told to the Call center automated system selecting my country India...after few seconds I was told "This key has already been used on another PC hence cant activate"!

5) I contact my friend in SA by using Teamviewer(Remote Access and Support software). He simply clicks on "Activate Windows" (not 'Change Product Key') and again point (3) from above comes up he selects Phone activation and country SA uses the Installation ID and to my surprise he feeds in the Activation ID on my PC through TEamviewer and my Windows 7 Enterprise gets activated.

Can anyone tell me what I was doning wrong?

Further, if for any reason I have to format my computer or reload Windows 7 Enterprise, how will I activate it again?

A simple point wise reply will be appreciated please
