Hi!

I'm trying to setup a VPN between my home computer and a server i have set up at my parrents house, the server has a static ip and a domain, i use this server to host web sites, FTP servers and a Mail server and all work but for some reason when i follow your instructions to setup Incoming connections i get the Icon but cant connect to it for the life of me... I have tried all possible variations of settings on both computers and both routers and I'm stuck... i keep getting this error msg.

Error 720 - A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection.

i have tried reading the logs but they're pretty much Greek to me so that was a waste of time...
I'm using Linksys E3000 routers on both computers and both have static ip with VPN passthroug enabled.

this should be such a simple matter but it's proving to be a real pain
anny help would be great...

sounds you have all of the public connections in the DMZ on your router. Do you run RRAS on any server(s) in the DMZ? You may have to foward the port to the static ip on the webserver and enable the webserver for RRAS

Solution

I found the solution to the connection problem, i had to set the incoming connection to manually give Ip adresses within a specified range and check the "let calling computers specify theyre own ip" and then the connection worked

New problem now is that windows now figured that "hey! a VPN lets use that as a internet connection and then it all got messed up since I don't use a dial-up connection for internet I could not set it to choose the right connection, so I had to delete the VPN and have to use Hamachi to do the job...

thnx for the help annyways!
