Hi all,

A friend of mine has a 5 year old Vaio which is now so slow it's basically unuseable, so I said I would wipe it and put XP or 7 on it, but am having some problems.

I want to get into setup to change the boot order so that I can use a memory stick or a DVD to boot Windows but there is a password on the setup. I spoke to my friend and he claims that he bought the computer and set it up himself, and has never been into the BIOS. Are there any default passwords for Sony's?

I searched google and found some default passwords but they didn't work and now I'm being asked for a Onetime password, not sure what that means...?

Is there any other way of changing the boot order?

Thanks all,
StubbyHS

Most of, if not all, laptops show a line on the screen while booting "Press xxx to change boot device" or similar - if you press the stated key while that line is on the screen, you can select one device in a list to boot from, even if you can't access the bios Setup.
If that doesn't work have you tried just pressing enter whenthe setup asks for a password. If one is not set that may work.

Not this one, tried F1-12 when booting up and no dice.

Also, leaving the password field blank didnt work.

Thanks for the quick reply.
