Problem getting slimline BD player to accept discs

Hello,

I have a Commodore 64x Extreme with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit operating system installed on it.

My problem is that every time I try to insert a disc into the internal slimline Blu-Ray Disc drive (be it a CD, DVD or BD) the drive simply ejects it immediately.

I've got the most updated driver installed for it, and Windows claims that the device is working properly.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I presume that it is a brand new machine with a slot loading optical drive. If so try to return it and get a replacement under warranty.

Hi jumanji,

That's possible, but it would be difficult, as I live in Australia and I ordered it from the United States. It took three months after I paid for it for it to be delivered. I want to be sure that there really is something physically wrong with my Blu-Ray drive before I do that.

Thanks for your help.

Update the firmware if one is available for it.

Hmmmm...... I had noted that you are from Australia :) and was in fact wondering how a recently released USA machine has reached Australia so fast. I also guessed that you could have ordered/preordered it and imported it. But then there can also be a distributor there for Commodore.

And now the harsh part. To me it seems to be a hardware fault. Would you believe that the the professional agencies there can handle the repairs or would you send it back to USA ? It is upto you.

Hi Hipster Doofus, we usually recommend a firmware update when there is a burning problem and media compatibility issues. Not taking in the media in no way seems to be related to the firmware.

Hi jumanji,

Yeah, the Commodore 64x Extreme has just finished its first production run. There is no Commodore distributor in Australia that I know of. I'd consider returning it to the States if I were absolutely sure that it was irreparable. What puzzles me is, the Blu-Ray drive has never accepted discs from the moment I first turned it on. You would have thought that the makers of the machine would have tested it to see if it worked before shipping it to me.

But, I'm willing to accept that it can't be fixed, if that's what's true. If not, I might like to see if some professionals here in Australia can fix it, though that would mean, I think, that my warranty would be void.

I believe Commodore USA has a forum - I'll make a post on it if possible detailing my problem to see if they have a solution.

Thanks for your help! :)

Mass production. Quality Control usually picks up random samples for test. Your machine might not have been netted by them. Very unfortunate.

While I will not denigrate the competence of tech service people there, they would definitely face problems in fixing it up. A new machine in an unusual package, a less often seen slot-loading drive ( I still presume it to be since Commodore has tray loading machines too), availability of any required mechanical spare parts / a replacement unit for it, will be the road blocks. And of course you will void the warranty.

As you rightly said talk to the vendor directly and check what solution they offer.

I only wish that I am wrong, and someone else here suggests you a fix.
