problem in connection in just windows 7

i tried to setup windows 7 twice and i always have problems with connection
always bad ping "connection" and sometimes just not working
im using DSL

i dunno if i should update my router or what
anyway its

THOMSON
ST536 V6

and i didnt even know how to update it ... please any help in updating it , and if i update it will that solve the problems i got with windows 7 ? cause this problems didn't happen with me when i used xp and vista 32
