Hi I hope someone can help me on here - I've tried for about 2 hours to get a copy of windows 7 working on my old pc and really can't see what the problem is when it comes to doing a clean installation.

It's not "old' only a year old or so with very good specs but I use another machine now so am trying to get this up and running for my parents to use before I go off for uni.

Anyway I'll try and be as clear as possible about the problem.

When I bought the PC a year ago it came with Windows Vista 32-bit but had 4GB ram so obviously this wasn't being used. A friend of mine had bought an extra copy of Windows 7 64 bit from a student deal and offered to put it on my PC. Of course I accepted thinking that it would perform much better with the 64 bit version of windows 7 and would be able to run my 3D applications easier.
The problem came when he was installing it, after formatting the hard drive he was installing it on he restarted it and booted from disk. After choosing a hard drive to install it on (the only one available) it keeps coming up with messages such as:

Setup.exe - Corrupt File
the file or directory
D:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback\Diagerr.xml is corrup and unreadable.

Then there were other with the extensions: \Setupact.log, \Diagwrn.xml, Setuperr.log

Anyone recognise these and what they could mean? It just closes off after this error message, so I obviously need to deal with this. Maybe another reformat is needed?

I am good with computers just not installing operating systems!

Thanks

Oh I also forgot to mention the version of Vista 32 bit is completely wiped off the system now, so it has no OS and relies on booting from disc.

Hello lisa, welcome to Seven Forums!

Sounds as if you may have a bad burn on the DVD installer, do you know where the disk you're trying to use came from, i.e. a download a pre-created disk from MS?

Do you know if the factory D: "Recovery" partition still exists on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD)?
