Problem Installing Programs on Windows 7 64 bit

On my system I have an SSD,so I have (Windows Restore) turned off. When I download a program and try to install it ,it says creating a Restore Point and sits there for a while. A log while. I have found that I can go into Safe Mode and install things with no problem,fast. Even after it is satisfied with the restore point and says it is installing, it will just sit there and drag on. What can I do to get things to install without Safe Mode?

Turn on system restore and try the install again. You can always turn system restore back off to save space.

And you can always set system restore to not go over a certain amount of Gigs, that would be your safest bet.

What size is your drive ?

Everyone says to shut off System Restore with SSD's. My understanding is to reduce the rewriting on the segments.

Who is everyone. I know of no good reason to stop restore.

The computer with the problem is my wife's and she is usually on it. So I will get back to you on the system info. The SSD is a 256gb Crucial M4. Tom's Hardware and SSD Reviews Guides both recommend turning off system restore.

THat doesn't necessarily make it correct! I for one would strongly dispute that recommendation. I can put forward a very good case for keeping System restore. I would like to hear a good reason for turning it off. To save space with a256GB SSD is nonsense in my view. It would only apply if you used the SSD to store your data files! They can happily go on a larger "normal" hard drive!

I have read Toms Hardware statement on this and would ask what alternative backup software do you use in place of Sytem Restore?

Never turn off System Restore.

Make sure you have a perfect install utilizing the best practices for Win7, based on tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here at the top tech forum. Steps are the same as for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Have a large enough SSD to keep System Restore, Hibernate and Paging file System-managed size, all Programs onboard, only User folders moved off to link via Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums.

You can also move User Folders - Change Default Location however this will make the data drive a system drive which is forced to be included in a Windows backup image.
