I'm trying to install SP1 on a machine running 64 bit Home Premium and it is repeatedly failing with error 8007371B (unknown error).

Details are:

Update: Windows 7 Server Pack 1
updateGuid: (5DA03162-868E-4567-80A2-D046B3FB1B09)

Anyone got any suggestions?

Via Windows Update

Wrong place I guess.

Also reading around at other threads it looks like I need the System Update Readiness Tool so I will try that.

See if the below is of any help to you....

Win 7 SP1.
Generic steps to take before installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

(Revised 05/12/11 - new steps added to help insure success)

* Update your device drivers to the most recent Windows 7 device drivers from your computer manufacture's support web site (for your specific make and model)

* Start by installing the chipset/motherboard driver followed by the remaining available drivers.

* Run the SFC /SCANNOW command. This will check and repair if necessary any critical Windows system files.

Click on Start/All programs/Accessories then
Right click on Command Prompt option and select 'Run as administrator'.
At the command prompt enter: SFC /SCANNOW

Hello!

Please follow @JMH's excellent list of things to try. If you *still* have a problem, please:

Copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

P.S. It is important to try @JMH's list first, because tools like the System Update Readiness Tool create log files, as does SFC, and so collect logs after running these, so that I can analyse those logs as well :)
