I'm trying to install a BTTrace device driver for a wireless/bluetooth led on my Shuttle case. the problem i have is that the 64bit driver was built for xp 64, and therefore is not signed for windows 7. I have tried installing the driver in xp compatibility mode, but i get a message saying that the driver is unavailable to the program due to it being unsigned. however when i bootup using f8 and disable driver signature enforcement, it works! now... i don't particularly want to boot up using f8 everytime i switch my pc on, and don't want to permanently disable driver signature enforcement. has anyone got any ideas or solutions?

this reply might be a bit late, but...

there is software available that will allow unsigned drivers to run.

i use it so i can run the excellent ati tray tools.

it may leave a 'test mode' watermark on the bottom right of your desktop, but that's no big problem so long as your wireless is working.

you'll also need to disable UAC to get it working...

Also, when booting if you press F8 to access the boot menu (before the start logo appears) you can select 'Don't force driver signing' or similar. This should then allow you to install any driver, possible even 32bit ;)

Hope this helps :)

i believe the OP already knew about the F8 option, but was getting fed up having to do it on every re-boot, and was looking for a more permanent solution.

the software that i suggested allows you to run unsigned drivers by activating a special 'test mode'.

you just need to run it once to switch to test mode, then run it again later if you wish to turn off test mode.

I ran into the same issue (I do not have 64, but it might work), and I installed a free program called drivermax, and it scanned and let me know what driver I needed. it even got the driver for me so I can download it. DriverMax - FREE driver download program for Windows XP & Vista install it, then go to the driver downloads and info section, then click the check online for driver updates section.

I am also running a quasar gamatron flux capacitor with twin pulse tronic phasers......jk, I have no such stuff.
Thanks all for input! I did try the signing software that mickey was referring to, but it didn't seem to work for me, but after reading your reply i'm not sure i actually had uac disabled. I'll give it another go. While i'm at it i'll check out drivermax that zay mentioned. i'll let you know how i got on.
