Hi: I could not open a file (Adobe Acrobat File) in Internet Explorer. Received a message saying that it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged. I spent several hours trying to get this file I needed for my work. Finally the next day I thought I would try Firefox and it worked fine in there. It stated that it was a Adobe Acrobat Document and Firefox should open it with - Adobe Reader by Default.
How can I get this to work in Internet Explorer? I usually use Internet Explorer. Could it be that I need to set Internet Explorer? Or do I need to delete/remove Internet Explorer and down load and install it again?

Thanks,

Ardath Morrison

Got to Tools, Internet Options and the Programs tab to set programs as desired. Before uninstalling might it might work to try Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab and Reset in the bottom part.

Hi,
Not quite getting what your issue is,
Are you attempting to open a file from a website or a local file on your machine,

Ideally the reader would have a browser add-on for that reader be it Reader XI or Acrobat which has always had issues more so than Adobe's reader XI, Gear symbol and Manage add-ons.
So personally I would download Reader XI and install it and test.
Cheers.

Hi ThrashZone: The file is from A Website and I had no problem to download and print and save it in Firefox!! So why can I not do this in Internet Explorer - which is my usual browser. I did reset Internet Explorer but it did not help at all!! Should I remove/delete Internet Explorer and redownload and install?

Thanks,

You cannot remove or delete Internet Explorer, you might invalidate/inauthenticate your Windows OS.
You can try to download and reinstall a fresh copy of IE 10 or 11. Tweaking.com's Windows Repair (All in One) has some preSelected options, you add [click] the fix IE option. Worked for me in the past. Also what has helped me in the past was to download, install, use Wise Plugin Manager -- and remove any/all BHOs, plugins, etc. that were not originally from Microsoft.

Hi,
You did respond to my Manage add-ons inquiry at all :(
Is there a Adobe Reader or Acrobat add-on listed ?
If not you will not be able to See/ View a pdf in internet explorer.

Please state exactly your process,
Downloading ? okay right click the pdf's link and click on Save target as then name if you like and save it where ever you like,
After it's saved to your machine it should open in acrobat.

Download Adobe reader XI to View pdf's in internet explorer,
Adobe - Adobe Reader, free PDF viewer download

Problems with Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader Download

Hi ThrashZone, Rolandjs & Berton: I have been able to download and print my Adobe Reader files in FireFox. The company that sent me the downloads sent me an email telling me to download the files in Google Chrome or Firefox. They also sent the attachments for the downloads in their email in case I wasn't able to download them in Firefox or Chrome. I had already downloaded these in Firefox before I received their email today.

I have uninstalled Adobe Reader and redownloaded and installed it again. I do not see the add-on for Adobe Reader in Internet Explorer though. How do I get it there?

Thanks,

Ardath Morrison
