hey mate, welcome to sevenforums

First, make sure the heat is not too high. feel the sides of the laptop, and make sure you are able to keep you hand at the exhaust port for an extended period of time without feeling a burn. Try this while playing games. If it gets too hot, find a way to cool it down, like a fan for the bottom of the laptop. If it has gotten too hot in the past, it is possible that it can cause errors due to the heat wearing it down. Your card is also towards the lower end, though I would suspect that it should still be able to play those games well.

What happens if you lower some of the settings in-game?

To play battlefield 2, the recommendation for CPU speed is 2.4 Ghz, and you are just below that. Still, is the heat okay? heat can effect more than the GPU... it can effect every component in the system.

One area that you are lacking is RAM. While 2 should most likely work, 4 would speed it up quite a bit. What you can do is ensure that nothing is running and taking up resources while you are playing a game. You can disable (temporarily) MSE, or anything running in the background to see if it helps. Some things that run in the background are adobe reader, apple programs, open programs, etc.

I would consider saving up for a future laptop with moderate gaming capabilities. Black Friday is around the corner. Other than that, not sure if I can be of much help in this situation. Stick around to see if someone else has a comment

The recommended GPU for battlefield 2 is:
minimum: NVidia GeForce FX 5700, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon 9500 - with 128 Mb of RAM
Recommended: Video Card with at least 256 Mb of RAM

The newer game will require better.

It should be able to take heat, but if it is burning your hand, (and has been hot like that for a long period of time), then that can wear it down. Not sure if this is the problem, but it probably is contributing to it.

yeah I could hold my hand to it for ever, I think I maybe should install Windows Xp
on my computer so I can use the official Dell drivers which may work better because
I don't know where to get Windows 7 drivers for my laptop anyways

Didn't think of that, but yea, that would be a major problem. MS encourages you to upgrade and when you do, there is no driver support from manufacturer haha.

ext. support of xp drops april of next year. You have some time passed even that date till you might start considering a new computer altogether. Last year's new thing is this years discount, so you might be able to find some good deals, and you have a whole year to do it. If I were you and had the means, I would use XP instead as well. It is a great OS anyway, and Age of Empires II plays best on it :) - one of my all time favorite games

Duo Core does not mean 2.4 x 2 = 4.8

Minimum requirements are pretty much marketing gimmicks to tell you that the game will install but it does not mean the game will play well... you should always stick with the Recommended requirements.

Go to MSconfig and the the startup tab, make sure you untick all the unnecessary programs from starting ie: adobe, apple, java, wmp, etc, etc, and only let the ones you have to, then go to the resources tab, ckick on Hide Microsoft products and again untick those that you know you don;t need to start

And even the recommended settings aren't always good enough to play the game on the highest settings^

There should also be a 'startup folder' somewhere that you can remove the startup items from, may be a little more simple. Either way works. But the speed you get from that may not be enough to solve your problem

You are also correct but, if you are on a tight budget, at the very least, it could get you playing the game at decent frames per second.

The problem rises when, at all cost, people want to play a game w/o even meeting the minimum requirements, they either don't understand or don't want to understand that you can't take a scooter and be competitive against even a regular motorcycle but they get upset because they don't win. :(

Hard to imagine that going back to XP solved the issue, then again, there are some pesky games that just don't like W7 even in compatibility mode.
