Solved problem restoring windows to an earlier point in time

Hey guys,

I used a registry cleaner to defrag my pc, after that it prompted a restart option and I clicked yes..

Just after restarting my pc went to system repair in safe mode, it said repairing was unsuccessful.. so I tried restoring to an earlier point, it asked for the user name and pass, then I chose the date but then after clicking next it gave me this message and I couldn't pass thru it..

It says "you must always restore the drive that contains windows. Restoring other drives is optional" and the next butten is disabled.. and I can't check the local disk option its greyedout.. help

Windows registry is not something that needs to be cleaned. As you know, Windows is a closed source OS and Microsoft never disclosed inner details of Registry or any other system files. It is better to believe Microsoft than some third party softwares when it came to Windows.

Thanks Anshad.. Definitely not using registry cleaners anymore lesson learned.. I've been trying to resolve this issue for awile and just now I followed the steps on the link you gave me and it worked!! Thank u so much..

Curious though, should I use the backup file the registry cleaner made before the problem was caused or should I uninstall it without using the backup file it has made?

You don't need to use the backup file created by the Registry cleaner ( Any registry modifications won't affect the backup hives in Regback folder ). Simply uninstall that peace of crap and enjoy happy computing .

Where do you find or how do you get to this point- I need to restore my links in mail and with stie links posted on pages.

Hey- gee thanks-

First none of my links with the cursor work in my email and inconsistent on sights, like just now I could not just click on the link presented to read your response I had to copy and paste the link and then go. Earlier was on one of those commenting sights and was trying to register to post my comment and could not get any of the windows to open for further installment to log in/on info. My cursor does not do what it used to do. Thanks again-Charlie

Sorry mate, i can help you solving almost all kind of booting related issues but i sucks when it came to dealing with web browser issues. However i would suggest ;

1. Cleaning and resetting all browsers using "Adwcleaner" AdwCleaner Download

2. If you are using only IE, try an alternate browser like "Chrome".

If the issue persists, it will be better to open a new thread in Network & Sharing - Windows 7 Help Forums. You will get more attention from real experts than posting reply to an already solved thread.
