Ok hope i posted in the right forum

I am a student who is exteremly intersted in all aspects of computers and is currently taking a computer hardware class.

I just installed win7 32bit on a friends computer and everything worked great. I installed avast as well as malware bits and skype (didnt want to but his room mate uses it) I also downloaded cabos since he said he would be using limewire. I showed him cabos so less resorces would be used up.

Now the problem was brought to my attention about two weeks later. I was told computer would not get past loading screen. it would start up and mouse arrow would be in middle of screen and stay there. I first checked the mouse to make sure there was no hard ware issues. there was not. I then went into the bios and checked the boot sequence as well as other things just to make sure nothing was out of the ordinary. After freezing on loading screen on me a couple times i went to safe mode and started it up the first time with out network, everything worked fine like the day i installed it. i ran malware bites then avast just to make sure nothing had infected the computer and i also ran one program then the other to see if the computer would freeze after a given amount of time. i figured with eather of the programs having an elapsed time on it i could see how long it took before a freeze if one was to accure. No freezes. problems or viruses.

So i restart and go into safe made with networking, i incounter the same problem i had with regular start up. I end up trying a couple more time to make sure it was a flook or somthing that might work after a couple trys. no avail so i start to think it has somthing to do with the networking. never incountered a problem like it before and was a little thrown off. I figured if i dont find out what is wrong then i can always just re-install the op system and start from scratch see if problem repeats its self. No matter what rout i go with, i am thursty for knoledge and would love to get some more insight on what might be the issue. Thanks and sorry for it being so long

You can check event viewer (type eventvwr in search), go to the windows log>application tab. You need to loo look for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that contain app hang, app crash, etc.

When you find them note the event ID and source codes and relay them to us

Let us know if you need help

How many peripherals are plugged in? I would try unplugging everything that you can excep for monitor and keyboard. Try that, if still nothing try removing any addon cards like video capture, sound, etc.

Silly question... is this computer connected to a network at all?
This sounds like TCPIP is trying to make a connection, failing and freezing the system until it times out (about 30 seconds).

yes it was connected to a network untell the problems came about. When i first installed windows and updated everything it worked fine connected to the enternet and was able to download avast and malwarebits and just checked stuff out for a good hour before i took off. i came back couple weeks later and was told computers not working and now hear i am haha they have at&t uverse and have no problem with enternet droping or anything with their labtop

Have you tried to insert the driver cd for your network card and updating the drivers?

When i first installed 7 i let it do the auto update for what ever it could find and i also went into the device manager to make sure drivers had been updated.

thank you everyone for your help and sugestions. What ended up being the problem was the network card was bent inside the computer. when i took it out it was just slightly off. the only reason i could tell was when i went to unscrew the screw holding it in. it was like crazy tight. i asked if they ever messed with any of the stuff and buy the dust build up it had not looked like anyone had opend or cleaned it out for years. So with closer examination it turned out it was bent enoph to cause it to not work properly. i tryed a usb network card and computer worked fine. thanks alot everyone
