problem Update windows 7, error 8000ffff

Hello everyone,

recently i started having a pop up saying "your windows version is not genuine..." (text from memory)
(my windows is genuine, already installed when I bought the Asus computer)

I tried to update windows (quite a few updates to do, I could not use the computer for more than a month) thinking that it would solve the issue, but unfortunately the updates all stop with error 8000ffff.

Following the microsoft help, I tried this solution: Windows Update - erreur 8000FFFF . It was not enough to solve my problem.


Following your advice, I downloaded Microsoft Genuine advantage diagnostic tool, result is below.

I am also in the process of installing "System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)" (just taking a lot of time to finish). I will update the post with the results when (if?) it finishes and I can save the results.

I also did a scan with Avast, it came out clean.

There don't appear to be any significant errors in the background CBS.log data, either.

I'll post a fix for the SFC error later, and we'll see if that helps.

I've uploaded a file - erwaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.
Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\erwaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\erwaa
or
DIR E:\erwaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\erwaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.
Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link
Also run a new MGADiag report, and post the result.

I foolowed your first advice, and downloaded and installed the Intel Rapid Storage Driver, then rebooted twice.

I finished the last thing you asked me to do, and did the SFC /SCANNOW and the MGADiag.
you can find attached and below the results.

Also, in case it is relevant and can help, I now have a problem with the screen resolution : it can not go higher than 1280*1024 (previously was 1600*1200) and it also does not detect anymore the second screen (previously working and connected through VGA connector)

The good news is that both CheckSUR and the SFC log are now clear.


First try this.
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32 folder. find the Catroot2 folder there, and right-click on it - select Properties.

In the General tab, clear the box beside 'Read-only (Only.....' by clicking in it until it's empty (it cycles around three values)

Click Apply.
Accept any warnings that come up - if you get a 'Ignore/Ignore All/Try again' option, pick 'Ignore all'

Once complete (may be almost instantaneous),

reboot, and run another MGADiag report.

I did this, and it seems it solved at least part of the issue: I was able to process almost all the windows updates. The "Internet Explorer 10 pour Windows 7 pour ordinateurs à processeur x64" did not work. Also, I am still not able to put the screen resolution higher than 1280*1024 (that's another issue, but still linked the global problem I think)
