Solved problem using Macrium (

I'm using Macrium (free) ver 5.3

I've used image backup to an external hard drive and then use Macrium restore to correct faults on the original C: drive. That works fine. But, when I insert another larger HD into the external (VanTec) system, select Clone this disk - it copies. Both the original OS and the Cloned drive have the same files on each. Yet, when I replace the oringinal OS hard drive with the cloned drive - a message pops ups asking to put in a "boot" CD. I don't know where to go from here.

Post a screen shot of Windows Disk Management with the external connected. We need to find out exactly what partitions are on the source drive and what partitions are on the external destination drive.

Having a problem posting a screen shot. I use a screen saver, paste it, but it doesn't go.

Hello GokAy, after much "googling" and trials, finally got the external Hard drive to boot from the system.

Hey, glad you fixed it, I must have missed your post with screenshot. If E was the drive that refused to boot, it doesn't look like bootable.

Mind sharing exactly how you solved it?

What I did after many searches;

Disconnected system CD from SATA port and replaced it with the Cloned hard drive.
Booted from the Windows 7 CD, here I forget the exact steps, but click Next until a dialog box opens. Select "Repairyour Computer". When the System Recovery System box opens select Command Prompt.
At command prompt type;
bootrec.exe /FixMBR (operation successful)
bootrec.exe /Fixboot (operation successful)

Removing Windows CD and doing a reboot was right on.

I'm not certain "who" or what selection I may read to obtain this info, but I thank them.

I may have read an article that mentions using a System Repair Disc, but I used the Win & CD. I hope the steps are easy to follow.
