Problem using Windows to import pictures

I have a new computer (Asus K53E) with Win 7 x64 - My camera is a Canon SD 750, and I'd like to use Photo Scape to work with my pics, not the Canon browser or the Windows Photo Gallery. So I've set my photos to import via Windows in Auto Play, and to auto delete afterward. The problem I'm seeing is that once the photos are imported into my computer and deleted from the camera, the little Windows pop up box that notifies me of the deleting process stays on the screen - it will not disappear until I either use Task Manager to stop it, or I reboot the computer.

I really would like to continue using the simple and effective Windows process to import my camera's pics, and to continue using Photo Scape as my photo browser/editor - but this is a very annoying issue and I'd love to find a solution.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm not sure how to cure your problem but i would suggest that you should never delete images from the card in your camera by using a Windows command. You could corrupt the card this way . In my experience it is always better to delete from within the camera. Anyway if you auto delete the way you say what do you do if an important image is distorted or corrupted on transfer to the PC. If you auto delete at the same time you lose the image!!

Hey Mitch, Thanks for the welcome and your response - your points are well taken, but having set this process into action, it looks to me that the settings to change it back are blocked by the speed by which the first popup box is covered by the second popup - even when the new box is moved out of the way, and the cursor is placed over the 'change settings' button, it cannot be opened. I seem to be stuck.

Now had a look through the manual and as I thought Canon supply software and the necessary cable with this camera to transfer images to the PC the recommended way. I have tried to replicate your problem and cannot at the moment but even if I could I would not be happy in recommending that you continue with your present workflow. IMHO it can only lead to disaster sooner or later! You don't say but it would appear that you take the card out of the camera and use your inboard card reader to download the images automatically? As I said earlier "What happens if when transferring an image file gets corrupted. If you auto delete then the image will be gone." Perhaps more importantly when you delete the images via Windows you take a chance on corrupting the formatting performed by the Canon software within the camera and you could end up taking a number of images of an important one off event only to find that you have nothing recorded on the card. To avoid this and many other pitfalls I urge you to go the Canon recommended route. it really does work. I use a Canon Video Camera and wouldn't transfer my precious videos in any other way. I then make sure I have a backup copy of the original before any editing is done on an external HD and then erase the files on the card via the camera. Happy to help you set up this system if you wish. It really is as fast as what you are doing now and so much safer!
