Hi all,
I've downloaded some movies and while I can view and burn some, I'm having problems with others. I've tried WMP 12 and VLC but when trying to play them, a message comes up "Incorrect codec use windows media player" or "codec error, use windows media player VTS_01_1 VOB"
I tried to convert them to DVD with AVS video converter but it won't do it. I thought VLC had all codecs necessary and prefer using that program but is it possible I do need addons or codecs? I'm stumped! Any help txs.

Try Windows 7 Codec pack Windows 7 Codec Pack. WMP does not have all necessary codecs.

Vlc should be able to play the movies which leads me to believe that the files may be corrupted. Use Medianfo to determine if the files are corrupted: MediaInfo - Download.
You should see a video stream and one or more audio streams. Upload a screen shot if you are not certain.

VTS_01_1 VOB is already in dvd format so why would you be trying to convert that one to dvd?

What are the file structures of the movie files you are trying to play (ie .MKV, .AVI, .MP4,etc)?

+1

I have never had any problems to watch any video format with VLC using Windows 7 Codec Pack.

Thanks all for your input,
After investigating and talking to a "whizz kid" it appears that I downloaded from some scam, phishing sites which are set up to do nothing but cause harm. Caught a couple of bits of malware but managed to clean them out OK but lessons learned...........be bloody careful!!
Txs again
