Problem when adding another RAM

Hi all,

I have an ECS mobo with 1 GB RAM. I'm going to add another 1 GB RAM. The current RAM is Kingston and another is Apacer. When adding the Apacer into RAM slot of the mobo, the computer doesn't show anything. I replaced the Kingston's slot with the Apacer but again the PC doesn't come up and doesn't show anything.
What is the problem please?

Not enough info.

The Apacer could be broken or could be incompatible.

The pictures are poor quality.

The Apacer is PC2 6400 CL 5.

I have no idea about the Kingston; I can't read what it says on the label.

I can't look up the RAM you need because you don't give a motherboard model number.

And your system specs say you have a Gigabyte motherboard while you say it is an ECS.

I'd do both of the following:

Go to the web site of whoever actually made the motherboard and look up the specification sheet for that model. It should tell you what RAM is compatible.

Get the thing running with the Kingston. Then go to Crucial.com and let their configurator examine your PC and let it tell you what RAM is compatible.

It's ECS 945p-a ver: 3.0

No, I don't think you can be sure.

What does it say on the Kingston RAM that you have that works? What speed is it?

I agree with you that the Crucial configurator says that this RAM should work:

1GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.8V 128Meg x 64 upgrades for 945P-A (V3.0) Motherboard, CT762311 from Crucial.com

I cannot find your 945p-a version 3.0 motherboard at the ECS web site. The nearest one to it is the 945PL-A (V3.0). Notice the "L".

This is what is says about RAM for that 945PL-A (V3.0) motherboard:

º Dual-channel DDR2 memory architecture
º 2 x 240-pin DDR2 DIMM socket support up to 2 GB
º Support DDR2 533/400 DDR2 SDRAM

DDR2 533 is also known as PC2 4200

DDR2 400 is also known as PC2 3200

Yet when you go to the Crucial.com and look up the RAM for your motherboard, it recommends PC2 6400, which is DDR2 800.

It may be that the your P motherboard differs slightly from the PL that I can find at the ECS website.

I really don't know what to tell you.

What does it say on your Kingston RAM that is known to work? Is it PC2 6400? Or PC2 3200? or PC2 4200?

The safest method is to buy 2 new sticks of identical RAM of the same brand. But we aren't yet sure what speed you need because I can't locate your exact motherboared at the ECS website and I don't know the speed of your working Kingston RAM.

Further confusing the matter is that the Crucial configurator for the 945PL-A (V3.0) motherboard says that PC2 5300 and PC2 6400 ARE compatible, the same as with the 945 P-A version 3.0.

I returned the Apacer RAM because it wouldn't work on the mobo.
