Hi All

My laptop just died on me(lcd died, hdd is fine), and I am in dire need of recovering my data from my hdd. I hooked up my laptop HDD to my pc (Which is also windows 7, same as my laptop).

My laptop hdd had two partitions. One where i had the OS and most of my programs. And a second partition where i kept some more stuff.

The HDD was 300gb. 100Gb for system partition and 200 for the other one.

When I hooked up my laptop HDD to my desktop (as an extra hdd) my desktop pc shows two new hdds(cos of the two partitions). It shows the following

New Volume K (83 gb free of 200gb)
System reserved 61 mb free of 99mb << this partition is actually 100gb

I believe that the Windows 7 in my PC is not recognizing it because that partition has windows 7 from my laptop in it. Is there any way I can access it? Please let me know
(ps: I am able to access the data in the New Volume K)

Thanks heaps!

pps : My OS is windows 7 64 bit on both machines

The HD partition is now visible. Thank you for the help!

With the disk from the laptop connected, carry out following:

Run disk management:
WIN |
type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
WIN=
key with Microsoft logo on top.

Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar
key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.

Make a snapshot:
WIN |
type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.

We need to see the Disk Management pics, but it sounds like:

The laptop drive had 3 partitions: System Reserved, C of 100 GB, and another of 200 GB.

Now, when that laptop drive is connected to another PC, you see only 2 of those 3: System Reserved and the 200 GB---with the 100 GB C partition missing.

It may be recoverable using a specialized tool such as Partition Wizard, but we need the screenshot first.

Hi, thank you for the helpful reply. The PC picked up the partition when i reconnected the drive after disconnecting it. Dunno why it didn't pick it up the first time, But i'm pretty glad that it did now :)

Thanks again
