Hello

My new computer shuts down completely when playing DirectX games like COD and Crysis. First I thought it was a heating problem but I ruled that out when I kept the case open and monitored the temparatures. It can also happen within the first minute of a game, but it could happen at a later stage as well. There's no real pattern.

My system specs are:
Windows 7 RTM x64
AMD Phenom 9550 Quadcore Black Edition
4GB DDR2 memory
Gigabyte M61PME-S2P with the F4 Bios (latest)
Gigabyte GV-N250 (Geforce 250GTS with 1GB of memory
Latest drivers from Nvidia installed

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Ron

Hi, there are a few things that could cause random resets.

What are your PSU details, more specifically the +12V rail rating.

Test your memory is error free by running memtest86+.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
I did a memtest as you suggested, didnt find any errors so RAM is fine.
No clue where to get the voltage information from, tried several programs like Riva tuner but was unable to find it. Could you tell me where I can find that info? Thanks

Ron

PS not sure if its helpful, but my power supply is 550W +12v 18A

Normally it is written on the PSU itself.

Also, you can permanently fillyour system specs on the forums (look underneath your name on any of your posts - just above the next post is a link that says Update your System Spec)

Finally, you mentioned that you're monitoring temps - of both the GPU and CPU of just CPU?

worked it out, it was the power supply. Apparently the one I got was dodgy. swapped it over with a new one and now all is fine. Thanks:)

You didn't mention a brand of PSU, so don't just go by the wattage to determine if it is up to par or not. A good quality 550W PSU that isn't flaking out should be more than enough for your system. However, one that's dying, or a cheap, generic one, could easily be causing this issue. If you ended up solving it by switching to a better quality PSU, you'll be glad you did in the long run, before it would blow, and take out some of your other components as well.

The one I previously had was a 500w (Don't remember the brand) and came with the case. Got a 500W now as well (brand AcBel, never heard of it) but seems much more stable, no gaming probs anymore.

Ha, most PSU's that come with cases are flakey for moderate to heavy gaming. We lost a few Apevia and thermaltake PSU's at our college in our classes. Ours didn't take out anything else, those of us who had the faulty supplies just got lucky.

which acbel did you pick up??? Their R8, R88 or PS2?
