Problem with a Windows 7 update

I've tried several times and the same thing happens: it stays on the 'Installing updates' screen forever, without the progress bar moving. If I shut the system down to install it, it stays on the 'installing update 1 of 1 please don't shut down your system' screen.

What could be causing this? The update is 'Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for Windows 7x 64-based systems. The bit I need, the 'KB - number' is hidden off the screen and I can't view it no matter how big I make the window. Naturally.

Can anyone help?
