Problem with build 7077 again :(

The last problem I have if you remember was the motherboard was 'dead'. No power to USB devices, monitors, etc. Well, now it's happened again. I didn't even overclock it after I reset the CMOS battery. Any idea why it happened this time

That sounds more like a hardware issue as opposed to windows. Have you tried another OS?

Yea, never done it with Vista, XP, Linux, etc. It's just Windows 7 Build 7077. The first time I thought it was my overclock so I cleared the CMOS and it booted and reset the OC and all. This time I didn't even overclock and it still does it. I left it on last night in Windows 7 and nothing happened to it. It seems to happen every other night

Try another os mate, just rule out a physical hardware issue, you can download linux real quick.

It shouldn't be a hardware issue, the computer is less than a year old. It's never done it before with Vista, XP, Linux.

Did you not read my post? I DIDN'T re-overclock and still got this happening.

id go with damoh's and test this with another OS prefferably Vista and Linux (both would be great)...
then we can surely say that it shouldnt be any problem with the Hardware...

it can always be anything even harware issue which at any moment can fail...
there is a reason they have warranties and such...

Did you enable or dissable lagacy usb in the bios?

Either one depending on what it's set to at the moment...

Maybe I've misunderstood the post
but if you've had to reset your CMOS a number of times it might be simply that the Battery is giving up the ghost.

Should be easy enough to stick a new one in -- these batteries DO have a shelf life as well or it could simply be defective.

Note the Battery for the RTC (Real time clock) also powers memory for CMOS settings etc etc.

I know they have a shelf life, but only just after 6 months? I've had three other PCs that I built about 2-3 years ago and they still work just fine, no issues what so ever. Or could this be due to the fact I had a really high overclock and not good enough cooling for it?

You may just have a dud Motherboard or something else may be failing to do with your Overclock and the lack of cooling, it's to hard to say unless you start swapping things out to eliminate all the possibilities.

It's possible that the battery could be defective -- some are.
Doesn't cost much to try it - or just swap from another PC and see if the other PC gets problems.

Those batteries are pretty standard on typical motherboards.

Seems to me that since none of us are having this issue that it pretty much has to be a hardware issue. The age of your computer has nothing to do with it, hardware fails all the time even on brand new computers!

If you keep resisting the prescribed fixes than how do you expect to ever get it fixed? The process of elimination doesn't work unless you are willing to try something.

I'll swap the battery on another PC and see if that helps, if not there's really no other hardware I can use to swap out to test if it's hardware. This PC is 2-3 years ahead of the older ones so yea.
