problem with burning discs

I just bought a new computer HP pavilian with windows 7 home premium. I'm trying to learn how to use the disc burning progrom that comes with the system. I had some pics in the pic library and burned them onto a CD-R. First I tried dragging them into the blank space. That didn't seem to work. Then I simply selected pictures to burn and that worked.

However, afterwards I had a problem. I took out some old discs of pictures I had burned previously using another computer (using Roxio Easy CD Creator). When I put these discs onto the DVD drive, suddenly I found that the pics that were supposed to be on the disc had disappeared, and that the new pics (which I had just burned previously onto the blank disc) were now on this old disc. I tried putting in a few more old discs and the same thing happened. The data that was supposed to be on the disc had disappeared and had been overwritten with new data that I had previously burned.

I noticed that I had a message whenever I turned on my computer, "You have images ready to burn." Apparently, the images I burned previously were still set up in the cue to burn again whenever I put a CD into the drive. And these CDs were CD-Rs, which aren't supposed to be able to be rewritten.

Does anybody know why this is happening and what I need to do? Thanks.

It could be that it is not recognizing the CD properly. Have you got Roxio software or try to go to their website and see if you can download something. I hope this helps you.

If your adding to a disc it will initially store them ready for burning to disc, you would have had a little notification box say files ready to burn to disc, then you hit that then burn.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think it's a problem with Roxio. The problem is that I kept putting in CDs of old data and found that these CDs were immediately being overwritten and new files were being burned on them (the files I had last burned on a blank disk. I discovered that I did have a notice "files ready to burn," so I finally deleted all the files ready to burn. That seems to have solved the problem. It seems that when I dragged data onto the "burn" section, they stayed there even after I turned my computer off and on. Then they continued to be burned on other discs, even if they already had info on them.

Maybe I'll try to free software. I'm still trying to learn Windows 7. Thanks again.

If you are using CD-R, you can't write on them more than once. If the disk has data on them, that is why you can't write.

Try this. if you want to see the old pics on your cd's, put the cd in th drive, click the start button, then click computer in the start menu. Now double click your dvd drive and it should spin up your pictures.

TIP: Burned CDs show as blank

I read every related sevenforums thread and since nothing worked, I came by this solution:

Your registry settings regarding built-in disk burning may be damaged. Try disabling and then re-enabling the native windows burn capabilities. This can be done easily by applying the tricks of this sevenforums article (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5942-burning-cd-dvd-enable-disable.html). After logging off and on (or rebooting) there are high chances the issue is fixed.

The files you saw are a temporary folder which is linked to the Drive so you CAN burn them to new blank discs if you want to. They were NOT being put on your old discs. They would just sit there (slightly greyed out) and you need to ignore them and open the actual "old" disc to see what is on it or delete the temporary file waiting to be burnt.
Until you hit/clicked Burn temporary files - waiting to burn - even Re-writable discs are safe (you can get a clue from the speed those files showed on your old disc = Burning would take longer - even showing a progress bar and eject the disc when done, possibly asking you to burn another using same files.

Your deleting those files was the best and easiest solution.
