Problem with HD´s

Hi guys !
I have problem with my HD´s. I have the following 3 systems:

1) PC - Intel Celeron Dual Core - Windows 8.1 Pro
2) Notebook - Lenovo i3 1st gen - Windows 8.1 Pro
3) Notebook - Dell i5 2nd gen - Windows 7 Home Premium.

So,
When I format the disk on PC(using SATA connection) and plug the HD on notebook using case and USB connection, the HD isn´t reconigzed on Notebook. Actually, the HD is recognized as "RAW", there isn´t any partition, asking to format the drive/partition.

And vice versa. When I format by notebook and plug on PC(sata or usb connection), the problem occurs.
But when I format using Notebook and plug on another notebook, the HD is perfectly recognized .

I tried with several HD´s. 3Tb Seagate, 2Tb Hitachi,2x1,5Tb Samsung and 1 Samsung 1Tb.

Could you be a bit more specific as to what the exact problem/issue(s) is/are with each system? Its kinda hard to identify what the exact issues with the hard drives are?? thanks

Use 1, 2, 3 in your desciption. With notebook to notebook it's a bit difficult to id which one you mean.

1) PC - Asus C8HM70-I/HDMI + Intel Celeron 847 - Windows 8.1 PRO
2) Notebook Lenovo i3 1st gen- G480 - Windows 8.1 PRO
3) Notebook Dell i5 2nd gen - Inspiron N4050 - Windows 7 HP

Hitachi 1Tb

First Situation:
I plug the HD Hitachi on (1)PC using SATA connection. Clean the HD using diskpart(prompt DOS->diskpart->select disk->clean). So I create and format the disk with NTFS.
Perfect till now. The HD Hitachi is working perfectly on (1)PC.

but

When I get this HD Hitachi and plug on Notebook (2)Lenovo or (3)Dell, using case and USB connetion, Windows ask to format the HD, something like this:

when I open the disk manager, it appears a RAW partition:

ps: the images aren´t my system/issue, but represents the problem.

Second situation:

but

When I connect this HD Hitachi on (1)PC, using SATA conection or Case+USB Connection(whatever the connection), the same issue happens here.
The Windows ask to format, I check the disk properties and the disk is empty, I check the disk manager and the disk have a RAW partition.
Exactly the same problem that happened on 1st situation.

extraction of the problem:
When I format the HD on PC, the HD doesn´t work on Notebooks.
When I format the HD on Notebooks(anyone notebook, or Dell or Lenovo), the Hd doesn´t work on PC.
When I format the HD on Notebook Lenovo, the HD does work on notebook Dell
When I format the HD on Notebook Dell, the HD does work on notebook Lenovo.

ps: the problem happens with my another 3 hd´s, 3Tb Seagate, 2x1,5Tb Samsung
pss: the problem happens even formating the HD on Ubuntu using gparted.

You connected and formatted the external drive to a single NTFS partition using your PC, via SATA connection. And then you connected the drive to the two notebooks, using USB.

The drive can be connected by both SATA and USB?

What is the exactly model of the Hitachi drive please?


Also, when had the drive connected to the PC and you formatted it, I assume it was then assigned a drive letter. And this should have caused the "safely remove hardware" icon to appear in the system tray (notification area).

Did you first go through the "safely remove hardware" icon before pulling the plug on the drive to remove it from the PC?


I'd recommend using Partition Wizard to do the creation/format of your partition to NTFS on the PC.

Then use "safely remove hardware", connect to notebooks, and report what happens (i.e. if your original reported problem still persists, or if the problem is now solved).

Drives over 2TB need GPT, while drives 2TB and less use MBR.

I think using Partition Wizard on your Win 8.1 PC to create/format your partitions to NTFS (instead of DISKPART) resolve your problems.


Also, is your Win7 Home Premium notebook 32-bit or 64-bit? Same question about your PC and other 8.1 notebook?


Please try Partition Wizard, and report results.

Here my HD´s
hitachi - 1tb -model: Deskstar 7K1000.C HDS721010CLA332
SAMSUNG - 1,5TB - model: HD154UI

So..
I formated the Hitachi using PArtition Wizard on my PC. Ok, 1Tb on PC.
and
The HD worked on Notebook too

BUT

If I save a file/folder on HD using PC, the file/folder does not appear on Notebook !
If I copy a file to HD using Notebook, I can´t view(there isn´t any file) on PC !


After I´ve saved 1Tb of files using PC, the HD isn´t recognized(again) on notebook. The old problem is back.

This is only happening with my desktop HD´s - 3.5".
If a plug a notebook HD(2.5", about 4 hd´s), connecting by both USB or SATA, it works perfectly.
Usb pendrives too(about 6 devices).

I can read and copy files using pendrives or notebooks HD´s.

And I always disconnect my drives using "safely remove hardware" .

All the systems are 64 bits, both 7 or 8.

And I also tried EASEUS Partition Master.

I'm still missing something in your hardware setup that you haven't described yet: how are these drives being connected to your computers??

The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C is a SATA-II drive, and the Samsung HD154UI is also a SATA-II drive. Are these simply bare hard drives that you've got connected through some external SATA case or "drive adapter" like this SATA/IDE->USB one from Kingwin?

I don't understand how your true SATA hard drives can be used both SATA and USB and connect them at-will to both PC and notebook as you describe, unless you're using some kind of external case or adapter which comes through the USB connection on your computers? Is that what you're doing?

Surely these drives are NOT being used internally in the desktop PC, and obviously not in the notebooks, are they??

So, what device are you using to actually facilitate the arbitrary connection, SATA or USB, of all of these different drives to your various computers? The drives themselves are SATA, but the interface of such an external attachment adapter is USB. Is this what you mean when you say "SATA or USB"? I would consider these USB, not SATA, coming through this type of adapter hardware... which itself might be relevant to possibly explaining this mystery of "lost files".

And which method... SATA or USB, or both... is in effect on each computer when failing to see a folder/file that has supposedly been written by some other computer?

And most importantly, do the drives cause the "new hardware detected" sound and get assigned a drive letter by Windows when you plug them in to each computer? And if you look at them with DISKMGMT, do they all show NTFS as the file system, or "raw"?

I opened the case and extracted the HD.
And after I used the adapter.

When I say SATA or USB it means I test both situation.

I first test using SATA conection. I connect the HD to motherboard and test if I can view the drive/partition/file.

If I can´t view the HD, I remove the HD from motherboard, put the HD in USB case(drive adapter) and connect the HD to USB connection on PC.

And which method... SATA or USB, or both... is in effect on each computer when failing to see a folder/file that has supposedly been written by some other computer?

When I use SATA connection(plugging the HD on motherboard), there isn´t any drive detected or sound.
Only the empty HD.
When I look at them using DISKMGMT, HD is shown as RAW system.

When I connect this HD by USB connection, the drive cause "new hard detected" and get a drive letter by Win. But the HD is shown as empty disk. And using DISKMGMT, RAW system.

Something interesting happened with Seagate 3Tb.

I have 3 SATA to USB adapters.
1) Generic adapter( i can´t remember how I got this adapter)
2) Adapter from Hitachi case ( from this enclousure HGST Touro Desk 4TB USB 3.0 3.5" External Hard Drive HTOLDX3NB40001ABB(0S03396) Black - Newegg.com )
3) Seagate adapter( from this enclousure Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive STBV3000100 Black - Newegg.com )

When I connect the HD using SATA connection on PC, the HD isn´t recognized.
When I connect the HD using Hitachi adapter, the HD isn´t recognized.
When I connect the HD using Generic adapter, the HD isn´t recognized.
When I connect the HD using original Seagate adapter, the HD IS RECOGNIZED

On Notebook, this 3Tb Seagate is recognized from any situation(actually, using any adapter).
