Problem with HDMI TV to ASUS P8H67 Mobo w/I7 HD Graphics

Hi,

Getting frustrated - help please. Every time I try to use an LCD TV (using mobo HDMI-out to TV HDMI-in) it results in a BSOD with STOP 0x16—telling me that the igdkmd64 did not recover. Usually before the BSOD I get something like "Display driver igdkmd64.sys stopped responding and has recovered" several times, and them–KABOOM.
The system works fine with a VGA monitor without the HDMI attached.

This is a clean Win 7x64 (Home Premium) install on a minimal new build:
ASUS P8H67 B3 (Realtec HD Audio, and Realtec Gbit Network);
i7 2600K with Intel HD3000 on processor graphics
4 Gb RAM (2x 2Gb) DDR3 1333
HD - Crucial C300 128Gb SSD AHCPI.
Supposedly (?) I have the newest HW drivers

The culprit TV’s are an older Olevia 42"-1080i, and a newer 26" VIZIO 1080p. Both are HDCP compliant, and both work fine with HDMI from a DVD, A/V Receiver or cable box.

So far I have tried swapping HDMI cables, tried using a DVI-out to HDMI adapter (TVs don't have DVI ports) – same result. Tried removing one memory stick (leaving only 2Gb on a single slot) same problem. Also tried with various BIOS settings -- no help. The same things happens if I booth in Safe Mode with networking, but not in Safe Mode. So, I disabled the network drivers and devices, and rebooted normally --but didn't help, same BSOD.

Have been searching the web and forums, but nothing seems to be helping.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Yikes- I just built my HTPC last night w/ a VGA LCD monitor, hooked it up to an older 768p tv tonight (it has HDCP) via HDMI and I'm getting the exact same blue-screen as you. I'll get the Windows boot graphics, and then no graphics after that on my TV. If I hook up both the TV and the LCD via VGA at the same time, the LCD blinks on and off and on and off, but no picture on either device.

BTW- I've got an ASUS P8H67 EVO board (B3 rev) with a Core i3-2100t.

If you find out what's going on, please post here! I was going to try the DVI->HDMI cable tomorrow- I'm not happy to hear that you've already tried that and it didn't work for you. I was thinking the HTPC doesn't like my old 768p TV and I thought I'd use DVI and separate audio until I get a newer 1080p TV later in the year...

I've got a smaller 1080p TV. I'll try that tomorrow. I did try two different HDMI cables tonight.

What you're describing sounds exactly the same -- including the flickering of the LCD screen. The flickering is caused by the crashing and resetting of the video driver. Because refreshing of the VGA screen takes longer than it takes the driver to crash after it recovers, you are not really seeing the error messages, and instead the screen appears to be flickering.

Someone on another forum suggested that downgrading the intel video drivers solved the same (or similar) problem. Didn't work for me though. I had to replace the motherboard and it is working fine now.

Hi Crasher-

I got mine to work. I had the latest Intel video driver on the PC from Intel's website (15.21.12.2321 (8.15.10.2321)) that was crashing. I uninstalled that version and the video to my TV via HDMI then worked (although I couldn't change the resolution and it wasn't the Aero theme, but Basic.) I then installed the Intel video driver from ASUS' website (8.15.10.2219) and no more crashing... Guess I'll be wary of using Intel's latest drivers.

I also wanted to chime in and say that I ran into the same problem. I am running an i5-2400 with an Intel DH67BL board. The latest drives caused Windows not to start, but after downgrading to the 2219 drivers, it works fine.

Thank you all very much. I've also have an ASUS P8H67 EVO board (B3 rev) with a Core i3-2100t. I also just built my HTPC w/a standard LCD computer monitor. All worked perfectly until I hooked up HDMI to my plasma (1080p) and kept getting blue screen with 'Display driver igdkmd64.sys'. The only thing that worked was backing down intel display driver to Intel video driver from ASUS' website (8.15.10.2219). Even the most recent version on Intel site resulted in same bsod.

Hope they figure this out soon.

They haven't figured it out yet. I finished a new build last week, and I had the exact same problem until I found this forum. Luckily enough the fix here still works just fine. Thanks guys.

Thanks to the guys who found the answer to this!

I have an H8M67M PRO motherboard in a new htpc I just built. Its been working fine direct to the TV via HDMI. I just bought an Onkyo av amplifier and I started getting the BSOD when connected via HDMI.

I noticed that Windows had done an update overnight so I assumed it was that and ditched the install and re-did it, only to find I was wrong when it still wouldn't boot.

I was running the video driver off the CD that came with the motherboard, version shows as 8.15.10.2405, so whatever they did to break it must of happened very soon after the 2219 driver.

Now up and running with the 2219 driver and its fine!
