Problem with installing OS onto HDD

Hi,

I have been trying to do a clean install with a legit windows 7 onto a brand new desktop. During the OS setup, the HDD was not recognized at all. When I checked the BIOS, it was strangely recognized in the wrong SATA ports when it wasn't even plugged into the right one. I tried replugging into all the SATA ports and it was in vain. I tried IDE, RAID, and ACHI.

I have read many posts concerning this HDD and I'm wondering if its defective?

This is a very confusing statement. It would help if you could explain what you mean here in detail.

Did you have anything running on the computer before, or is this a brand new build, and the hard drive has never been used before?

Recognizing the wrong SATA port sounds like a mobo problem. Is it registering correctly in BIOS SATA listings now?

Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Try setting SATA controller to ACHI first, then IDE if necessary.

Remove all but 2gb of RAM for install, reseat RAM, swap sticks. Test your RAM using memtest86.

Test your HD using maker's diagnostics/repair full CD boot scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.
