Hello, I just installed a new sata dvd burner. ( Sony AD-7241S 24x ). I can see the drive in the bios and also in the explorer in windows 7. When I put a either a dvd or a cd in the drive, I can see th contents of the disk. But when I try to access the drive my computer freezes. It is a brenad new burner and the sata cables are also b rend new..
any help would be appreciated..
I'm not sure but this issue i encountered a couple of times with AMD machines with ASUS DVD Burner. If you have other machine like Intel or a friend has so take that Sony drive out and test it on other machine that's what i would recommend you to do coz in that way it will be confirm that it's the drive itself has a problem or it's just happening in your PC. Also try to change the SATA port if you have more than 2... If it will work on other machine and not on your so replace the brand. Hope it helps

My motherboard has 4 Sata ports. Oon the first one is my HDD. I originally plugged my new SATA burner on number 2, I then plugged it into number 3 and the same problem arises. I took it out and put an old IDE in. This is working fine but I really wanted to install the Sata because it has lite Write. ( and it was a gift for my birthday. LOL ). I will have to follow your instructions and try it in a different machine.
Thanx for all your help.
( oh, and I dont seen any jumpers for the sata. )..
This is probably the similar problem i had with my AMD few years ago but hope things will work out and yes let us know once you will done checking it on
