problem with old hard drive

hello
when I installed windows 7 RC 7100 I bought a new hard drive and put my XP home one in the sata 2 slot thinking I would have access to my DATA
I was wrong for Documents and Settings, I can't access them, I can access everything else, Program Files, games, completed torrents that aren't in My Documents, but all my other stuff, like My Received Files or My Pictures, are locked, it won't allow me to copy paste on my win7 OS hard drive
any idea how I can get the rights to access it??
I won't be able to boot with the old hard drive, because I installed windows 7 with my new motherboard

You need to take Ownership of your My Documents folder to gain access, you can download this Context menu shortcut to make the job easier.

Another one originally written for Vista works for this as well seen at Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Vista :: the How-To Geek

Windows in generall will lock out access for individual admin and standard user accounts where this method can make life a bit easier. If you still run into any further problems you will need to gain additional permissions.

And this 7 compatible program contains a similar "take ownership" explorer context menu tweak, plus many other useful tweaks, that can easily be installed (and uninstalled) simply by checking and unchecking the appropriate box. It's a very slick free app, imo.

hey I'm bumping this cause it's not working @100% in true windows 7 version
I click the take ownership thing but it doesn't take 100% of the ownership, for example I have access to every folders but I cannot see the picture or video sample (in the icon) so I must copy paste to the main hard drive this is retarded
well just though I had to share this info with you, I can still have access once I did the copy paste, but it'S annoying

On the menu bar>tools>folder options>view tab did you uncheck the hidden files box? By default that will be checked off with any fresh install of Windows whether XP, Vista, or 7 there. Also uncheck the box for files with known extensions to then see if the files are suddenly found visible.
