Problem with "open with"

I mistakenly used "open with" with a folder. It was open with notepad. so whole the icons changed to notepad icon. How can i change it?

Right click the file once again and click the program you want to open it with. If your program is not there, select 'Choose default program' and select your desired program. Hope that helped.

Yeah, it is working. The problem is with the icons. all the icons are same, even the chrome, firefox etc and when i open these the icon in taskbar shows the notepad icon. I wantn change that. please giv me a reply.

Hm, it could be that the program that Windows uses as default has been changed. Try following this tutorial.

Thanks for the reply. But it also didn't help. Even the sticky notes or calculator cant open properly. but there is no option for them in default program settings. :-(

Could you perhaps take a screenshot of a folder with different file types in it? Have it in details view with the file type and name if possible.

The problem is in Desktop i think. All the links open with chrome( later i tried 'open with' once more). But there is no problem when i try to open from any other folders(from program files). start menu icons nd desktop icons have changed to the default program(chrome). I also tried to change icon from each icons properties. It also didn't work. Only the recycle bin and word icon have no problem.View attachment Open With Problem.doc

Navigate to: Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations
Select the particular file types and see what the default program is set to. Whatever it is, change it to what it should be; Windows Explorer, Firefox etc.

Yeah, i checked all these when u give the tutorial. All the problem is with desktop and start menu icons. Can i correct it if i do system restore?

Yes. That was my last resort. I try not to restore if I can help it. Do you have a restore point sometime recently that you can use? If so, use it. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance...

No need to do system restore. I created a new user account. Everything is perfectly working in that account. Thank u very much for spending time to answer me.
