I had this problem last week, I cannot boot since it is stuck on Starting Windows splash screen. So I tried to re install my OS. After few days, the same problem happened so I did the same thing. I am afraid it will happen again. I cannot tell if its my OS' fault or my Hard Drive.

1 strange thing happened after I re installed my OS.

Is this normal?

That's not normal according to me. Read/Write error can be caused by improper HDD installation hence causing Windows to spend more time figuring out what this device actually is. I suggest you verify your SATA cable. Switch ports if you have some of them free or replace the SATA cable. If the problem persists run chkdsk /f to check your drive for errors.

I'm using a laptop, any difference?

The driver installation seems normal to me. But if the cop-out at boot happens frequently, I suggest to make frequent images so that you can reset the system more easily. And don't forget to image the system partition (the little 100MB partition) at the same time.

I will do that, and I will update if anything happens again.

If you are using a laptop then most probably your HDD suffers from an ntfs file system corruption. Try chkdsk /f first. Then try to defrag your harddrive using a disk defragmenter.

Did you delete all partitions during the Clean Install Windows 7 using the Drive Options shown in Steps 7/8?

Post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image.

Is the drive shown loading its driver your HDD? Check in Device Manager under Storage or Hard Disks to see if its listed, along with any others.

If so what is the result of the suggested Disk Check?
I would also run bootable Seagate Seatools CD scan on the HD since Hitachi no longer has a bootable drive test, but you'd have to slave the HD to another PC to run Hitachi Windows test linked in HD Diagnostic

I finished doing chkdsk and defrag. During chkdsk, some files are unreadable, bad sectors and were deleted. Do you think my problem is solved already?

I formatted system partition only (C:) leaving D: at ease.

Here is the screenshot after chkdsk and defrag.

I'm pretty sure the HDD was my hard drive since I dont have any externals.

Good. Now restart and notice the difference. To be 100% sure your drive was repair by Disk Check. Go to Computer>Right Click on your primary HDD partition>Tools>Check Disk for Errors and select scan and repair checkbox.

Your HDD should now appear fine in Device Manager.
