Here is perfect. Could you elaborate on your issue?

Yes I can thank you.

I had a corrupt hdd which contains a lot of files over several years mostly to do with the fishing club im the secretary of. the old hdd ran on xp and wont boot passed the first couple of stages getting stuck just before the password input stage. I bougt a new bigger hdd and installed it with windows seven then I slaved the old hdd to it which now shows in my computer as E drive. I then installed office 2007 onto the new C drive and tried to open the files in the E drive so I could save them to C and when I had reteived all I needed I would format E and copy back the saved files from C thereby using the newly formatted E drive as a storage device and not clogging up my new C drive. So all well and good everything worked until I came to try and save any of the files or folders in E it keeps saying "you do not have permission to access this file"

Okay, I'll need to take a sample of the permissions of E: and one of the files you don't have access to.

Would you be able to open up a Command Prompt and run the line
Code:
icacls "E:"
and a line similar to
Code:
icacls "E:\fileYouDontHaveAccessTo.doc"
and paste both outputs here.

Sorry you must think me rude asking advice and then not replying to you, I had a problem charging my laptop and had to wait for a new charger to arrive. Ok some new developments since I last spoke is that the pc is so slow that I find it hard to do anything with it at all. I can only assume after talking with a mate that the single core processor (don't laugh) is too small to run windows seven efficiently, I loaded office 2007 and it took nearly three hours to download. I have now ordered a 2.65 quad core processor from ebay and hopefully that will make it more usable. So to recap it is running a 3.2 C drive and a 1gb E drive as a slave. Since we last spoke I discovered that if I copied and pasted from the E drive to the backup file I put in the new c drive it would let me open it in windows seven after clicking the get permissions tab that comes up. However that only worked for the documents on the old PC (Edrive) desktop luckily these included mant that I needed to use. when I try to open my documents or my pictures in the Edrive it says you must use the security tab which is where I get lost.
