Yes, thanks. As I said above, I tried that and it changed the new registry to look just like the old one before it even got through copying the entire user account.
Just the user folders. Didn't touch the registry, but something in my user folders must have affected the registry as it was being copied over. At least that's the only explanation I can think of for what happened.
Do you think a repair install might fix this problem? Or am I doomed to have to do a clean install?
I would give a repair install a chance to try and avoid a clean reinstall. Either way, it would be a good idea to backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe.
