Hi this is my firrt post here.

Last night I was trying to install Crysis on my Samsung Series 7 Chronus NP700Z5A-SO1UK.

It wouldnt install tried all sorts of things to get it installed, and a friend suggested that I reinstall windows to get it working.

I used the Samsung receovery disk in the box and I now have a fresh version of windows on my system however I have lost all the samunsg software etc, so the FN + F1-F12 dont work, express cache doesnt work, battery saver, wifi, max screen resolution I can set is 1024x764 rather then the 1600x900 it should be, basically everything samsung put on is gone and its just basic windows.

How to I get all the samunsg stuff back, any suggestions would be great help.

It sounds like you were given a Win7 OEM Reinstallation DVD which is a much cleaner reinstall of Win7 but lacks the preinstalled OEM software that comes in Factory Recovery media. Using this installer would be the same as the procedure given here in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 except that it should self-activate.

If a better Display driver doesn't arrive along with other newer or missing drivers in optional Windows Updates after running several rounds of Updates, then find it along with any other missing software or drivers on the Samsung Support Downloads webpage for your exact model.

If some needed software is not there or lacks functionality after install then I would contact Samsung. However I can tell you based on recent Samsung cases we've helped with here that they might claim that some software isn't fully funtional except when reinstalled using the Factory Recovery disks or image stored externally, and that to run the small Recovery partition must still be intact to be triggered from boot since it will no longer run from the reinstalled OS. Otherwise only the Recovery Disks can be booted to recover to factory condition, and they would not supply them.

What I would do first is find the software you need and reinstall it to see how it works. If it's not on the Downloads webpage then google for it to see how others found it - same if it doesn't work correctly.

Remember that almost all of the Samsung utilties have better versions built into Win7 so you should also give it a nice long trial period to see if using the built-in WIn7 utlities work to your satisfaction.

If you really want the factory-installed software and you didn't create a set of recovery discs, you could try contacting Samsung and tell them that that your recovery disc creation didn't complete.

They may take mercy on you and send you a factory restore disc, but I'm inclined to agree with Greg in that they probably won't.

Windows Updates will most likely find drivers for you after a fresh install, but if not you can always download what you need from Samsung Support.

This is the worst advice I`ve ever heard.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Before i reinstall the drivers, I found a microsoft website that gives instructions to restore the windows.old file, will that restore it back to how it was?

I tried to follow instructions but when I get to the command prompts instead of a \ symbol I get a funny W with a line down it?
