Problem with the driver for the Wireless adapter (Realtek 8188SU)

I recently purchased a USB WiFi adapter from eBay (Realtek 8188SU
chipset) to use with my desktop PC. After installing it, it does not detect any wireless networks either through the Realtek utility or Windows. When trying to connect to a network in windows, I get the following message:
"There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection 2 adapter"
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and have only Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV software.

According to the device manager and network connections, the device is fine. Below is a screenshot of ipconfig /all, device manager, network connections, and the error.

I have also followed general advice given in this thread, which appeared to be a similar issue as what I'm having:

adapter.html

I have tried this wireless adapter on my laptop, also running W7HPx64, and the device performs flawlessly, can connect to networks etc. The device appears as a different name when it is first plugged in without the drivers installed, but once the driver is installed (either the one from the disk, older version, or the one from Realtek's website, newest version) it shows up as the same device name.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, perhaps what to look for in the registry or device settings that might be different between the two computers.

Hello jkenny23 and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not an expert at anything. :)

Do you have the latest Realtek driver?

Thanks. Yes, I have tried the latest driver from that page, as I mentioned in my post. I am using the utility included in that driver package, I am not aware of others.

No solutions then? I'm either going to have to buy a new WiFi adapter or reinstall Windows. Looking like the latter for time sake..

Edit: Too slow, thanks anyways. Reformatted, installed Windows 7 Pro x64, works with the latest driver.
