Automatic updates said I needed this update but it failed to update more than once. So, I went to Microsoft's website to download it from there to see if that made a difference. When trying to install I get the message "This update is not applicable to your computer". I had no error messages. I have Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64 bit and I.E. 11 so I don't know what to make of this. On the face of it the update ought to apply to my computer but something clearly isn't right. All the other automatic updates installed correctly. Does anybody know what's likely to be happening here please?

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Windows Update File

Hopefully the Update File uploaded. I have reduced the file to keep within the maximum permitted size - deleting what appear to be the benign entries.

There were 15 files automatically downloaded by automatic update but 4 failed. So, I started re-installing the failed 4 updates one at a time. 3 of these succeeded leaving KB3049563 outstanding. So, I went to the Microsoft website to download and install it but I got the message that the file did not apply to my computer. I noticed that the file had x86 on it.

I can also see on the internet that other people are now reporting problems associated with this update.

I need the CheckSUR.log file, and the CBS.log - you need to compress them before uploading.

I am not very good at finding my way around but:
1. I think I have uploaded the CheckSUR file.
2. The CBS.log is still 28mb after going through the process of deleting all but the most recent of the Persist and then compressing what is left of the log.

The CheckSUR log looks fine - but I still need the rest of the data.
Please follow the instructions I linked to in post #2 and post the data requested - you can post each file separately if necessary, after compression to a zip file

1. First of all a screenshot of the contents of the CBS File.
2. Secondly the CBS file of that screenshot compressed.
3. The persist file ending 112 is still 9.9MB so too big.
4. The persist file ending 037 compressed.

I am not sure that the screenshot can be read easily so here is a compressed file of it in case it is any better.

There is still no sign of a SFC scan having been run since 13th May - after this thread began.

There are a large number of this error-pairing present in the CBS logs...
Code:
Line 2525: 2015-05-13 17:16:27, Error CBS Failed to check whether package is partially installed, package: Windows7SP1-KB976933~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514 [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
 Line 2527: 2015-05-13 17:16:27, Error CBS Failed to call external evaluate applicability on package: Package_for_KB976932~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.17514, Update: 976933-0_neutral_PACKAGE [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

This error usually appears in attempting to install SP1! Unfortunately it's one for which I don't have a ready cure, and up until now a repair install has been the normal procedure. I don't know whether this would work for you - or whether you have the necessary media.

Problem Solved - Many Thanks NoelDP

I saw the instructions about running SURT but I noted it could take hours so I have only just got around to it. It actually took something like 45 minutes to install so not so bad as I had feared. It ran just the once and afterwards the update KB3049563 installed successfully - so thank you very much for your help! I have left a thank you note to add to your reputation. I am sorry if I appeared a bit slow in comprehension but I am quite a novice at this type of thing and more than a tad unsure as to how to do things. Many thanks for your patience. Jeff.
