hi,

i am trying to repair windows7 ultimate x64bit sp1, using the tutorial on this site. i downloaded the .iso and ran the setp.exe. all goes well until after the "copying files" action is 100% complete. during the next step i get the message:

"Setup can't continue. Restart the computer and restart setup. When prompted, try getting the latest update."

i've tried restarting the computer and running the setup again but i keep getting the same message. please help, thanks.

You are not trying to do a Clean Install, you are trying to do a Repair Install, is that correct? If so, are you putting the Windows DVD in the DVD Player and then starting your PC so that it boots from the DVD?

i mean using the repair/upgrade option on the windows7 dvd. i downloaded the iso file from the microsoft website and opened it from within windows to run the repair, as per the tutorial on this site. windows update is not working and none of the fixes have worked, thus the reason i am trying to repair windows.

Burn the ISO to disk or write to flash stick using the tool provided in the Repair Install tutorial's red Warning box. Then boot the disk into http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html to run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html to check the condition of System Files.

This may resolve your issues itself, or you can next uncheck everything in msconfig>Startup and >Services tabs (after Hiding all MS Services) then try the Repair Install again.

If that fail try uninstalling your AV to try again.
