I have a Problem with the windows 7 firewall and it keeps reconnecting me to a public profile every time I disconnect from the internet or reboot my computer and I want it on a constant Private profile. Can anyone help me please as it is costing me through the nose on a mobile broadband provider when I should be connected to a wifi home network.

Open up network and sharing centre, then set the network to private.

Yup I did that and the windows firewall just changes back to public network, as if it has a mind of it's own and changes when it wants.

You should be able to disable public networks in the Windows firewall. Go to the firewall and select Advanced settings. You will see Domain, Private and Public then go to properties. You should be able to block the inbound and outbound Public area. You might also want to block the Domain also if you only use Private. Of course, make sure Private is enabled.
