I am fixing a friends laptop that had a bad hard drive. I got a new hard drive, and got a copy of windows xp and i know have it on a bootable flash drive. Now, this laptop is an Acer Aspire One laptop, with no cd rom, that is why I am using a flash drive to install the OS. Anyways the setup starts and then i get an error that says the cdrom cannot be found.

Is there anyway i can still install the xp even though i get this error? I tried to change the boot order all around, but no matter what way i have the boot order, i get the same error no matter what. Thanks in advance!

Hello.

Did you try to repair the failing HD with maker's diagnostics/repair CD extended scan, followed by chkdsk?
HD Diagnostic
Windows 7 & Vista - Running Checkdisk from a Boot CD/DVD or Windows Desktop

If nothing else, it might allow you to get a free Macrium Reflect or Paragon image so you can reimage the new HD which should then start up with a Repair Install.
