I just recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. The problem I am having is that when I double click on a program to open it the computer thinks for 5 seconds and then stops with no result. In order to make the program run I have to right click and opt to run it as an administrator but then I get a pop up asking me if I want said program to make changes to my computer. I hit yes and the program will run.

I have children that use this computer and I do not want to have them having open access to administrators privileges and, besides, after installing software you should be able to simply open it.

Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this?

1. you apparently have no password on your admin account. if you want to keep your children from running system stuff, you should define a password. Then the UAC will ask for that.

2. some programs require to be run as admin. You can set them to always run as admin if you right click on them (best in All Programs), go to Properties > shortcut tab > Advanced > check the box in front of "Always run as admin" > OK > Apply (do not forget Apply - else it will not set it).

3. If normal programs like e.g. Notepad need to be run as admin, then there is another problem that we'll have to investigate.

Please give an example (or a couple) of a program that won't run when clicked on. Let's not get off track looking at Administrator problems yet.

I have all the accouns password protected.

The programmes I am having all the trouble with are IE and Firefox. Neither will load unless I load them as admin even in my admin ID.

It looks like it is every programme. I just tried opening Jasc Paintshop Pro and it wouldn't open either.

What is interesting is that we have a second computer that I recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I haven't had any of these problems with that computer.

For a brand new computer with a brand new OS this is really frustrating.
