i can change the icons for recycle bin and my computer but the problem ive come across is the recycle bin doesnt change when its got something in it even though i have assigned a different icon for it when its full.
any ideas or has any one else come across this problem?

If you locate where you have put the theme file (e.g. [name].theme) you can right click it & select open with, choose notepad look at what the file is stating for the recycle bin

it will look like this

; Recycle Bin - SHIDI_RECYCLERFULL SHIDI_RECYCLER
[CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\DefaultIcon]
Full=%SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll,-54
Empty=%SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll,-55

You will just need to change the Full= & Empty= to navigate to the icons you choose.

Hello Murphy,

You might see if using the method in this tutorial with the new icons may work for you.

Yeah, it's the same all round. I've even created custom themes and the desktop still needs refreshing. It's quite strange

this has been really bugging me lol
and i had a thought about it (i may be totally wrong) as the recycle bin works without any problems if i use the default,would it be possible to find in the registry where the controls are for the bin make a note of them then change the icons go back to the registry and see what the differences are maybe a fix to all our problems could lie there.
i would do it my self but i dont know where in the registry the controls for the bin are located.

Hi all ,

I followed what was said on another Forum . It means editing the registry , but it has worked for me .

Quote "
If I add a comma and 0 (,0) in the registry after the icon filename they will switch back and forth without refresh.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\DefaultIcon]

From this
Default %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\themes\icon\trashempty.ico
Empty %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\themes\icon\trashempty.ico
Full %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\themes\icon\trashfull.ico

to this
Default %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\themes\icon\trashempty.ico,0
Empty %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\themes\icon\trashempty.ico,0
Full %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\themes\icon\trashfull.ico,0
