Problems installing 64 Bit on Windows 7 Enterprise

My job has a partnership with MS and we received a CD with Windows 7 Enterprise edition. Now I don't know if this is a complete OS or just a trial (it doesn't say trial/demo anywhere) so I'm assuming it's a complete OS.

There is only one CD and does not state if it's 64 of 32 bit. When I go through the install it does not let me select 64 bit (which I would like to install).

Did I miss something during the install? Did MS only send 32 bit copy?

Also can we install this copy on multiple computers? We have # of people that would like to test it but we are not sure if the same CD/copy will be able to be installed on # of computers (and if it will work long term).

Its E8400 Intel so the answer is yes.

There was no key or documentation with the package (just checked with our IT).

There was no CD key or anything, after installation Product key is filled in automatically under Control Panel>System Tools. It didn't ask for it during the install either.

PS we are Gold Partner (for whatever that's worth)

Again we are not sure if it's a trial/test edition. It looks like a full version as there was no RC or trial or ANYTHING during the install process.

Did MS release Enterprise to its Gold Partners before the release date? I would think no, but then why isn't there any Trial/Demo written all over it.

Really weird.

Also I'm still wondering about installing it on multiple computers.

I checked the Readme file and it didn't really say much about 64bit other then "choose which one you want".

Chaos, I would suggest you contact Microsoft and ask them for a statement. It looks like your company received it "officially" from them, so they should tell you the policy on how it can be installed (single or multiple users). Also, they should be able to tell you what version it is. Isn't there a key for activation?

No there is no key and didn't ask for it when installing.

REALLY weird. But I can't be the only person experiencing this. I'm sure MS sent this CD to all their partners.

If you did get it from an oem partnership, and it has no key and is enterprise. Its probably the 90 day trial. no key because there is a hard coded time bomb. 90 days and thats it. Only way to fix it is to buy a non trial copy and CLEAN INSTALL ONLY.

Just a guess but I bet you dont want to install that

I haven't seen word Trial or 90 days throughout the install. Anything I can look at on the desktop etc?

Not sure whey they would even sent it do us, we can download it easily. Also wouldn't there be 32-64 versions if it was trial?

Have you activated it yet? If trial you have 10 days to activate. I have the trial. can you tell me what your hash value is? I can tell you if it is the same as mine

open an admin command prompt and run

slmgr /dlv

it will tell you the expiration stuff, or whether it is permanently activated

Found some info through Google:

There's only one version of the Win7 Enterprise media. It's not like XP/2003 where there was a separate version for volume licensing and retail. During installation, you won't be asked for a product key. After installation, you will be asked to activate. At that point, if you have a KMS server setup on your network with the appropriate DNS records published, it should be able to find it automatically. Otherwise, you'll have to use the slmgr.vbs script included to manually set the location of your KMS server. You also have the option of activating against Microsoft with a MAK style key.

I see, that's why it's looking for DNS...hmm.

Thanks for the info! Not sure if reinstalling will even work at this point, but I can try it (will only take 20 min or so).
